A few of our friends & family have asked me to post about the proposal. So here goes ...
First, back to the past-ish ...
Mike & I had been conversing about getting married more seriously around Christmas 2012. As we have dated for quite sometime, conversation of getting married was bound to come up around the 3 to 4 year mark right? (cough-cough we were now going on 7 cough-cough) Mike and I are each other's best friends so of course we would eventually make things official! Once we decided to begin ring shopping things began to really sink in. Getting engaged is a HUGE step.
Now, the proposal ... June 15, 2013
We planned to go to Snowbird for Brewfest with our friends George & Illa in the afternoon. However, before that I asked Mike if he wanted to get a pedicure with me. Now, those of you who know the 'pedicure' situation ... I've been asking Mike to get a pedicure with me for YEARS. So when he said that he would, I had a feeling something was up. He was feeling especially nice that day, hmmm wonder why? ;) >> sorry babe, didn't mean to put on blast for getting a pedi lol <<
After our pedicure, we met up with George & Illa to go to Snowbird. We had a great time tasting various beers while eating garlic & sweet potato fries.
That evening, Mike & I had dinner at Sea Salt, an Italian restaurant in Salt Lake. Check them out on Yelp >here< or their website >here<. Dinner was delicious! We shared a pizza and pasta which I wish I could remember the name of our dishes so I could tell you more about it, dang. After dinner Mike asked me whether I wanted dessert. Uhmm ... come on, when do I ever NOT want dessert?! Silly man.
I suggested we go to Gourmandise The Bakery to get some marzipan. Yelp them >here<. So as we are leaving, he decides NOT to get dessert and doesn't tell me ... instead we take a detour to where he will be staying for the next 6 weeks as a counselor for TRIO. // Check out the M + J page for more info on what TRIO is :) // His trickery led us further away from the dessert destination (Jen's mind: Boo). Mike then suggests that we maybe rent a redbox and watch it at his place. I agreed that would be nice since we spent the day drinking in the sun ... sounded pretty good to me; however, I still had my suspicions.
Once we got to his place, he asked if I would let the dog out. In my mind, I was thinking he had set something up inside so he had me go in first to see it right? As I opened the door ... nothing. No decorations or any sign of proposal happening that night. (Jen's mind: Boo ... maybe tomorrow? haha.) He comes inside and said he wanted to show me 'something'. (Jen's mind: Oh boy! I think it's happening!) Nervousness sets in.
Holding my hand, he leads me into the backyard. As we turn the corner I see flickering candle lights in all shapes and sizes; bistro lights hung from the fence to the deck; a blanket of rose petals leading me to a dessert table with champagne; and best of all flashes of paparazzi cameras. In case you didn't know, my only request for the proposal was documentation. Whether someone was in the bushes filming or taking pictures for memory sake. The paparazzi happened to be Mike's sister Meg, Meg's friend Shellie, my dad, and little brother Jett. I remember their little bodies trying to hide behind the outdoor furniture lol.
Mike got down on his knee and asked me to marry him! And I squealed, Yeaaah! I was hoping I would be more proper by saying YES but my emotions were running so high and shaky I couldn't help myself and blurt out a Yeaaah! After the proposal, we reveled in the moment and waited a good 30 mins before notifying everyone we knew via social media. It felt wonderful that for those few minutes ... only a small group of people knew we were engaged.
The End.
Whew ... I thought the typing would never end. Haha.

What I didn't know >>> The night before Mike proposed, his family and friends helped him set up the ambiance. Luckily, I was busy and out having dinner with some girlfriends. I hadn't called him all day so I was wondering what he was up to. He called me a few times during dinner saying things like, "Oh don't worry babe, I'm just hanging out with my friends." "I'm going to be over at so-and-so's to hangout." --- I wanted to see him and said I'd stop by to say hi before going home ... good thing I'm a chatty cathy with my lady friends and didn't finish gabbing until late!
***Special thank you goes out to the following individuals that assisted in the most romantic & intimate proposal ever : Lehr Fam, Truong Fam, Michelle, Alex, George, and Illa. You guys mean so much to us!
Oh yeah, thanks to the man who thinks I'm a good candidate to be his future wife ;)
